HALAWA, Hawaii – -- Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) safely removed 32 55-gallon drums of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) concentrate from the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility, April 23.
They also removed seven drums of personal protective equipment that was used by personnel during the AFFF concentrate removal process.
All 39 drums will be taken off Oahu for proper disposal at an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-permitted facility in Arlington, Oregon.
The task force began removing the AFFF concentrate from the storage facility April 8 after the EPA and Hawaii Department of Health approved the operation.
