The 380th Air Expeditionary Wing provided vital logistical support to U.S. Marines who participated in Native Fury 24 – a three-week-long exercise in May that executed various dynamic training events including a long-distance convoy in both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“We’ve been helping to make sure our Marine counterparts have a good spot to be able to transition while they’re embarking and going to their other locations,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Caleb Mischung, a wing planner assigned to the 380th AEW. “As they go from one training site to another, we’ve been able to help with overnight location stays, preparation to get to the next location and continue on forward to the end of their mission.”
Native Fury is a joint large-scale exercise, consisting of approximately 1,000 U.S. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen. Members from the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, Marine Corps Forces Reserve, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, U.S. 5th Fleet, 378th and 380th Air Expeditionary Wings, as well as partner nations within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, participated in this the eighth iteration of Native Fury, which took place May 2 – 23, 2024.
Led by the U.S. Marine Corps, Native Fury 24 focused on the swift and effective deployment of Marines and equipment into the region, leveraging the extensive network of roads and infrastructure across the Arabian peninsula. This logistic endeavor aims to expand cooperation with key regional partners by increasing proficiency in conducting crucial maritime logistics, expanding levels of cooperation, enhancing maritime capabilities, and promoting long-term regional stability and interoperability with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
As the 380 AEW supported exercise efforts, the joint environment created opportunities for growth. While together, Marines and Airmen in the petroleum, oils and lubricants sections trained in sync to see the similarities and differences in their fueling processes. Multiple Senior Airmen also joined their Marine counterparts for professional military education in a weeklong leadership course designed for corporals.
“It’s actually an interesting and fun experience to get to work with our different services and see how they operate, finding and working through the dynamics and starting to understand where they’re coming from, and they start to understand our process,” said Mischung. “It’s a wonderful experience to get to see all of the diversity in the branches and how we can all come together to make one mission happen.”
Mischung says that Native Fury is a perfect example of one of the U.S. military’s strengths.
“We have the ability as a military to come across the world, go to a location we’ve never been to, find other military members, never having met that person, never talked to them, and we can find a way to make the mission succeed,” said Mischung. “With all the hurdles, all the challenges, I love the fact that I can say with all honesty that we will find a way to succeed and we will get the job done.”
