FORT CAVAZOS, TEXAS—Tennessee National Guard Soldiers have been working diligently at Fort Cavazos, Texas at the Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site, also known as, MATES. The site plays a crucial role in training and maintaining equipment prior to upcoming missions.
“We are currently operating on all the equipment that is scheduled to go overseas,” stated Chief Warrant Officer 3 Brian Conger, of G Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment. “We are doing inspections to make sure that all equipment is acceptable for Soldiers to use and operate overseas. We are trying to find out now if it’s something that we need to replace with another piece of equipment.”
Mechanics perform essential tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, and making necessary repairs to prevent potential future breakdowns. Proper maintenance is key in operational readiness and allows each unit to carry out their missions effectively.
Numerous highly skilled personnel are required to maintain the equipment needed for overseas operations, and to ensure success of the MATES operations.
“We currently have a team of approximately 60 personnel dedicated to the maintenance and operation of our equipment, ensuring seamless performance and optimal efficiency,” said Conger.
The mechanical maintenance process and stages ensure each piece of equipment is in optimal condition and ready for the rigors of combat. Without the diligent work of the army mechanics the safety of the personnel could be compromised in combat and training exercises.
