During his fireside chat at the 9th Annual Army Summit, US Army CIO Mr. Leo Garciga talked about the importance of delivering software rapidly and securely – focusing on the fundamentals which enable agile delivery at speed and highlighting the DevSecOps focus on Army business systems.
Garciga also spoke about the Unified Network, remarking, “We don’t want to show up somewhere and not be able to plug in.” Having a network where Warfighters can seamlessly transition between geographic locations and access the necessary data is paramount to successful operations.
Lastly, Garciga touted that great ideas without a concept of operations (CONOP) are problematic because that generally means the idea isn’t fully thought out. It’s crucial to have a good CONOP to support any idea brought up with the intent to scale across the Army and these ideas must include customer input to ensure the best user experience at Army scale.
Mr. Garciga was also presented the Wash100 award for IT innovation and leadership, given his bold approach to IT modernization for the Army
