COLUMBUS, GA – As part of the DoD Field Studies Program, members of the Maneuver Captains Career Course – WHINSEC took time away from their daily academic-classroom requirements and visited the Columbus Police Department and the National Civil War Museum on June 21. During their visit, students had a first-hand experience on how local Public Safety Services in the U.S. operates and how they engage with the community in a typical small to medium sized community.
After lunch at a local, traditional fare, restaurant, they continued to the National Civil War Museum. Volunteers from the museum provided the students a historical perspective on naval warfare during the Civil War and its significance to the city of Columbus.
The FSP affords an opportunity for the International Military Student to become familiar with the United States; its social, cultural, and political institutions; and its people and their ways of life. The program further increases the IMSs' awareness of the U.S. commitment to basic principles of internationally recognized human rights.
