NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. – The 57th Wing command team has released its first-ever reading list distributed for all Bullseye Airmen, June 7, 2024.
The recommended readings were selected by Brig. Gen. Richard Goodman, 57th Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Jason Trickey, 57th Wing command chief, and are associated with various categories including national security, leadership, personal development and more.
The Nellis reading list initiative drew inspiration from the CSAF Professional Reading Program implemented by Gen. Ronald Fogleman, the 15th Chief of Staff of the Air Force back in 1996.
“My vision for this library is to serve as a platform to inform discussions by providing materials that draw lessons from the past, while addressing pressing emerging topics,” said Gen. David Allvin, chief of staff of the Air Force. “The pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong journey; we are never truly done learning as every experience and interaction offers an opportunity to expand our understanding of the world.”
Air Force leaders emphasize the fact that great power competition requires Airmen to be both mentally and physically fit. One way to stay mentally fit is through reading.
“As practitioners of the Profession of Arms, we value the importance of embracing a life-long commitment to learning,” said Goodman. “It’s my sincere hope this reading list takes our Airmen to new heights.”
Goodman and Trickey decided to debut their reading list initiative this month ahead of Goodman’s change of command in July.
“I want to leave behind an enduring contribution to the Airmen,” said Goodman. “The success and professional development of the Bullseye team is and remains my utmost priority.”
Both Goodman and Trickey hope the reading list will help Nellis Airmen strive toward personal and professional growth.
“Reading is a warfighting imperative,” said Trickey. “Our life’s experiences alone are insufficient to lead in today’s environment and reading allows us the opportunity to bridge that gap."
Airmen should check periodically for the command team’s updated recommendations – many of which can be found through the DoD Morale, Welfare and Recreation library.
