BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — First Sergeant Diana Nogiec of the 110th Wing has been recognized as the 2024 Outstanding Airman of the Year for her exceptional leadership and dedication within the Air National Guard. Known for her innovative approach to operational challenges and unwavering commitment to mentorship, Nogiec's journey from a young Security Forces apprentice to an esteemed First Sergeant embodies the spirit of service and excellence.

Nogiec attributes her success not only to personal determination but also to the support of her team. "It's an honor and a humbling experience," she remarked, reflecting on the significance of the award. "My primary focus has always been taking care of our Airmen. This award signifies the trust and confidence in my abilities to lead, mentor, and guide."

Her leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in her upbringing, shaped by her parents' courageous journey immigrating from Mexico to the U.S. in search of better opportunities. Their sacrifices continue to fuel her dedication to honor their efforts through hard work and achievement. This drive has propelled Nogiec to foster a culture of continuous improvement and mentorship among her peers and subordinates.

"Master Sgt. Nogiec is a dynamic professional and a critical part of our 110th Mission Support Group command team, and we are excited and honored to serve alongside such an inspirational leader, " said Col. Daniel Guy, 110th Wing Deputy Commander. "As a caring, committed, and courageous First Sergeant with an infinite amount of energy, she drove the group and 5 squadrons forward as a change agent.”

In her role as First Sergeant, Nogiec has spearheaded several innovative programs that have significantly impacted future Airmen. Notably, she developed the Air National Guard First Sergeant Assignments Manager and Functional Area Manager positions, aimed at optimizing assignment processes and enhancing leadership effectiveness across the Guard.

Chief Master Sgt. Aaron Dent, command first sergeant of the Air National Guard, praised Nogiec's visionary leadership and comprehensive knowledge. "She not only understands our current challenges but has the foresight to envision what our career field can become," Dent noted. "Her dedication enhances our training, manpower, and resources, positively impacting every Airman, component, command, and first sergeant across the Air Force."

Nogiec's commitment extends beyond professional achievements; she emphasizes maintaining a healthy work-life balance. By prioritizing time for family, hobbies like reading and running, and engaging in self-care activities, she ensures resilience and focus both in and out of uniform.

Since her time in the Mission Support Group, Nogiec has been hired as the Wing First Sergeant. Looking ahead, Nogiec aims to further advance her leadership skills, pursue additional education relevant to her field, and deploy — experiences she sees as vital for personal and professional growth.

"Stay committed to continuous learning and self-improvement. Build strong relationships, be proactive, and never shy away from seeking mentorship," Nogiec advises aspiring Airmen. These principles have been pivotal in overcoming challenges and achieving success in her career.

The Michigan Air National Guard celebrates First Sergeant Diana Nogiec not only for her achievements but also for her unwavering commitment to excellence, mentorship, and innovation. Her story serves as an inspiration to Airmen across the nation, embodying the values of leadership and service that define the United States Air Force.
