    IWTC San Diego Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Potluck

    SAN DIEGO -- Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) San Diego hosted a potluck celebration on May 31, 2024, in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Organized by the multicultural committee and supported by the First-Class Petty Officer Association, the event was a vibrant tribute to the rich culture and history within the IWTC San Diego community.

    The potluck featured a diverse array of dishes from around the world, reflecting the various cultural backgrounds of the attendees. In addition to enjoying the culinary delights, attendees were treated to touching stories about Guam, fostering a deeper appreciation and respect for the heritage being celebrated.

    Electronic Technician Master Chief Cortney Pitts, Senior Enlisted Leader, IWTC San Diego Lt. Cmdr. Michael Millar, executive officer, IWTC San Diego, and Cmdr. Daniel Flemming, commanding officer, IWTC San Diego, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of cultural awareness and inclusion within the command.

    "Events like these are crucial in fostering unity and respect among our sailors," said Millar. "They remind us of the rich diversity that strengthens our Navy."

    Flemming underscored the significance of celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, stating, "our command is enriched by the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our sailors. This celebration is a testament to our commitment to honoring and respecting the heritage of all our personnel."

    The event also provided an opportunity for the command to share important updates and information. Flemming announced upcoming cultural awareness initiatives and highlighted recent successes in IWTC San Diego's training programs. Additionally, Pitts shared key insights from recent Navy-wide directives aimed at enhancing sailor welfare and readiness.

    IWTC San Diego's commitment to recognizing and fostering cultural diversity within its ranks is evident through events like the potluck celebration. By honoring the heritage and contributions of its personnel, the command continues to uphold the Navy's core values of honor, courage, and commitment.

    IWTC San Diego, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT), provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.

    With four schoolhouse commands, a detachment, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, CIWT trains approximately 26,000 students every year, delivering trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. CIWT also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians, and officers in the information warfare community.
