NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka (FLCY) Command Master Chief Todd Wende retired after thirty years of service to the U.S. Navy in a ceremony among his family, friends, and shipmates. The ceremony was full of Navy tradition and included the reading of "The Watch" and shadowbox presentation. The guests included many former shipmates who traveled from far and wide to take part in honoring Wende's career.
"His leadership has not only shaped the lives of countless Sailors but has also contributed significantly to the mission and success of the Navy." Said the guest speaker, U.S. Seventh Fleet Command Master Chief Daniel Field. NAVSUP FLCY Commanding Officer, Capt. Michael Carl, who presided the ceremony, also echoed during his remarks. "Though he may be hanging up his uniform, his legacy will endure in the hearts and minds of all who have had the privilege of serving alongside him." said Capt. Carl.
A native of Eastland, TX, entered naval service in 1994 and began his service as a hospital corpsman. Wende served as the command master chief of NAVSUP FLCY since November 2020, his fourth and final CMC tour. "Today marks the culmination of an incredible journey - a journey that spans three decades." Wende said in tears as he started his remarks, and thanked his family and friends, and showed appreciation for their support.
"While I may be bidding farewell to the uniform, I carry with me the values, lessons, and memories that the Navy has instilled within me," said Wende who served twenty-five years in Japan out of his thirty-year career in the Navy. "As I embark on the voyage of retirement, I do so with a full heart, a grateful spirit, and a deep sense of pride in having served my country." he added.
