    55th Wing

The 55th Wing recently completed open ranks inspections
throughout the wing as directed by Gen. Ken Wilsbach, Commander, Air Combat Command.
These open rank inspections ensure that the sword of professionalism remains sharp within the
    55th Wing and throughout ACC.
“ACC will focus even more on readiness as part of the Air Force’s reoptimizing for Great Power
Competition changes, and readiness starts with the enforcement of standards,” said Chief
Master Sgt. David Wolfe, ACC command chief. “Airmen at all levels must ensure we are
collectively devoted to a culture of excellence.”
Open ranks inspections are in-person assessments of each Airman. They are evaluated on
customs and courtesies and adherence to dress and personal appearance standards in
accordance with Department of the Air Force policies. Each squadron was tasked with
conducting these inspections, to be completed no later than July 17. The 55th Wing completed
all their inspections by July 10.
“Our job is deterrence,” said Maj. Caitlin Oviatt, 55 th Logistics Readiness Squadron commander.
“Each one of us serving in the Profession of Arms is an individual deterrent sending a unified
message to our adversaries that we are the most credible, disciplined, and lethal Air Force in
the world. Our actions and identity as a force are predicated on our high standards.”
With the Air Force's plans to reshape, refocus, and optimize the Air Force to maintain supremacy in
their respective areas and better position the service to deter and triumph in an era of Great Power
Competition, there is a heightened emphasis on readiness and lethality at the forefront of the fight.
“Ensuring our professionalism and readiness is paramount to our mission,” said Col. Mark
Howard, 55th Wing commander. “The completion of our open ranks inspection ahead of
schedule reflects the dedication and discipline of our Airmen. By maintaining the highest
standards, we send a clear message to our adversaries that we are prepared and capable of
defending our nation in any scenario.”
