PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) hosted an Occupational Standards Review (OCCSTDS) for Cryptologic Technician Interpretive (CTI) on Corry Station June 10 – 14, 2024.

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) varying in degrees of experience, participated in the weeklong workshop to collaborate on updating the CTI OCCSTDS to meet the current needs from the fleet.

“Our command welcomed 33 CTI SMEs from 16 Commands across the Fleet to work together in shaping scope of our rating,” said Master Chief Cryptologic Technician Interpretive Gloriana Jensen, CTI Rating Training Manager, CIWT. “Our rating is unique in that we can gather 20 CTIs in one room and, although we all speak different foreign languages, we can still find a common ground to strengthen our rating and promote regional and cultural expertise across the Navy. Through the OCCSTDS, we were able to define 176 plus tasks to be accomplished by CTIs with multiple primary languages working on different platforms in different regions of the world.”

The workshop's accomplishment included the development of 42 new CTI tasks and updates to numerous operator and analyst roles. Job rating definitions, functional area, skills, and abilities were also updated. All told this workshop resulted in a near 25% update to the CTI rating.

“[This working group] directly contributed to critical programs such as the CTI Rating Learning and Development Roadmap (LaDR), the Advancement Examination Readiness Review (AERR), Occupational and Readiness Standards (OARS), Rate Training Manual (RTM), and Navy Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL),” said Mr. Sam Kelley, the CIWT Training Requirements Director.

Mr. Kelley went on to state, “The development of the OCCSTDS will be used to support future Job Duty Task Analysis (JDTA) events and will assist with the development of Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS), distribution, assignments, promotions, and training for over 2,200 CTIs.”

With four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, Center for Information Warfare Training trains over 26,000 students every year, delivering trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. Center for Information Warfare Training also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians, and officers in the information warfare community.
