OKINAWA, JAPAN – U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Turner Sawyer, an intelligence specialist with III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal during a ceremony on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, June 13, 2024. Lt. Gen. Roger B. Turner, the III MEF commanding general, presented the medal to Sawyer personally, recognizing the integral role he played in the continued development of the unit’s All-Domain Operations Center.

The ADOC, a concept which has been developed and tested by III MIG personnel like Sawyer in recent exercises, is designed to combine multiple intelligence disciplines, streamlining targeting processes and fires coordination.

“No one else has done what we are doing before,” said Sawyer. “Knowing we are revolutionizing intel in III MEF is really exciting and gives my job a lot of meaning.”

Developing the ADOC has allowed Marines to transition from calculating target locations and movements manually to programming systems capable of completing the calculations for them, saving time and increasing accuracy while coordinating command and control, intelligence and fires.

“At the end of the day, our goal is to reduce commander’s uncertainty,” said Sawyer. “We’re here to help inform those who decide where we fight, how we fight and when we fight. As intel, we are continuously working on our craft and making it better.”

Sawyer attributes his success to his leaders at the III MIG S-2, citing their mentorship and guidance as the foundation on which he has been able to thrive as an intelligence Marine.

“I’m fortunate to work with a lot of really amazing people,” said Sawyer. “I’m the most junior Marine in my shop, and I work with a lot of officers, senior enlisted and warrant officers. There’s so much knowledge to be shared and there’s always something to be learned.”

Sawyer says he hopes to continue working to refine the ADOC concept and contributing to future innovations within the Marine Corps intelligence community.
