FORT BELVOIR, Virginia - Gina Whitaker, a longtime defense acquisition professional with experience spanning several PEO EIS programs, officially assumed the charter for the Army Human Resource Systems (AHRS) product office July 9.
The ceremony was hosted at EIS’ Fort Belvoir headquarters by Col. Melvin Mitchell, project manager for EIS’ Enterprise Business Systems – Convergence Project Management Office, which took over managing AHRS in June. AHRS’ mission is to provide installation and field commanders worldwide with knowledge-based automation tools that are essential for human resource accountability of Soldiers and inventory management of organizational clothing and individual equipment.
In his remarks, Mitchell acknowledged the work of past AHRS leaders and teams in building “a 20-plus-year legacy that we can all be proud to inherit and continue,” and charged Whitaker with continuing to “foster an environment of collaboration and growth.”
Whitaker credited both her personal and work families for her career advancement. In particular, she recognized Logistics Information Systems product lead Elissa Zadrozny with giving her encouragement and providing mentorship.
Over the years that Whitaker has supported AHRS — initially as a developer, then assistant product manager and most recently as deputy — she has seen the organization evolve to meet the Army’s and Soldiers’ needs. AHRS systems have “stood the test of time for over 20 years,” said Whitaker, noting that the systems are now being modernized using an Agile development approach to keep delivering capability for years to come.
AHRS systems include the Deployed Theater Accountability System, which provides real-time, in-theater accountability by name, unit, location and date; and Installation Support Modules, which integrate Army installation business practices and processes like in- and out-processing.
