NTAG Ohio River Valley and Heartland Spread Knowledge and Awareness to Educators During Virginia Visit

COLUMBUS -- Two weeks ago Sailors from Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Ohio River Valley (ORV) and NTAG Heartland led nine educators from the Midwest on an Educator Orientation Visit (EOV) throughout Naval Station Norfolk and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek.

EOV’s are a program sponsored by Commander Navy Recruiting Command (CNRC) and offer educators an opportunity to tour in-port Naval facilities, giving them a better understanding of what America’s Navy can offer their students.

“The best part of the experience was seeing the hard work, dedication, and leadership skills that the Navy builds in young adults,” Angela Bray, an English Teacher at Scottsburg Senior High School, in Scottsburg, In. said after the event concluded.

This iteration of NTAG ORV and Heartlands EOV took the group of educators for tours aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), USS Ross (DDG 71), Submarine Learning Facility Norfolk, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 9 (HSC 9), Explosive Ordinance Disposal Group Two, and Navy Special Warfare Assessment Command East, allowing them to see the multi-faceted nature of the Navy.

“It was inspiring to hear the background stories of each Sailor and how they found their role and career in the Navy,” Angela said.

Lt. Jeffrey Boutin, NTAG Ohio River Valley’s Enlisted Programs Officer, and one of the escorts for the event, said that he thinks that The Navy’s EOV program is crucial and designed to provide civilians, particularly educators and community leaders, with a firsthand understanding of naval operations, missions, and the daily lives of service members.

Pam Schreiner, an educator for an alternative learning program in the Ohio River Valley said that her perception and understanding of Navy opportunities and lifelong learning completely changed after she attended the EOV. “Every Sailor was well spoken and clearly well educated in their fields,” Pam said.

“The EOV fosters a greater appreciation and awareness of the Navy’s role in national defense and global security,” Lt. Boutin said after returning from the EOV. “This exposure helps bridge the gap between civilian and military communities, promoting support and advocacy for the Navy.”
