FORT CARSON, Colo. – The legacy of the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was celebrated as Originals from past and present gathered to reminisce and reconnect during "The Meeting", an alumni night held at Throne Plaza on July 18, 2024.
The evening was a blend of remembrance and renewal for 10th Group members. Alums and active-duty soldiers paid tribute to fallen comrades, toured battalion areas and historical exhibits and received updates on each company's current activities and future.
"We started this a while back now," said Deputy Commanding Officer of 10th SFG(A) Lt. Col. Brian Hanrahan. "When Maj. Gen. Ferguson was the 10th SFG(A) Commander with the intent to honor our lineage, inform the alumni of what the Group is currently doing and where our current priorities are; as well as to hopefully have some fun, reminisce, and continue to build upon our traditions."
Hanrahan addressed the complex geopolitical challenges confronting the 10th SFG(A) and outlined the group's strategies and preparations to navigate this evolving landscape.
"We are at the forefront of great power competition and forging the TTPs (tactics, techniques, and procedures) for SOF's (Special Operations Forces) role within that unique problem-solving set," said Hanrahan. "We are actively innovating and developing the capabilities to make us and our partners successful against our adversaries."
A current 10th Group operator emphasized the importance of events like "The Meeting," highlighting the opportunity for active-duty members to connect with and learn from the unit's veterans.
"The best way to honor their (alumni) contributions is to keep their stories alive," said a 10th SFG(A) Operator. "Passing down the wisdom and experiences that shaped the legacy of the Green Berets."
