RODRIGUEZ LIVE FIRE COMPLEX, Republic of Korea - The 1st Armored Division has mobilized the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team for a rapid deployment to the Republic of Korea as part of a readiness exercise, highlighting a force that is exceptionally capable, well-trained, and ready for combat at a moment’s notice.

This emergency deployment readiness exercise supports Pacific Fortitude, reinforcing established commitments to the Republic of Korea by deploying forces and managing logistics to validate unit readiness and reaffirm the U.S. pledge to the alliance.

Initiated by a no-notice alert in late July to 1ABCT troops in Fort Bliss, Texas, the exercise saw Soldiers arriving on the Korean Peninsula just days later.

“This exercise allows us, as well as U.S. Army Forces Command, to assess our performance under stress, including the various systems and relationships necessary to move a unit from one location to another,” said 1st Sgt. Dishon Carr, noncommissioned officer in charge of 1st Armored Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company. “Our goal is to generate combat power and execute our mission to the highest standard.”

Before deployment, Soldiers completed EDRE Level 2 procedures at Fort Bliss, including load-out operations, equipment retrieval from the Central Installation Facility, and Operational Security training to ensure rapid-response readiness.

“The unit has been designated as an Immediate Reaction Force in preparation for this deployment,” Carr noted. “We have taken various steps to enhance personnel and equipment readiness and have also focused on preparing the families of our Soldiers.”

Upon landing in Korea, Soldiers completed reception and conducted staging, onward movement, and integration tasks, including equipment inspection and retrieval at U.S. Army Garrison Daegu.

Following the main body’s arrival, troops were transported to Rodriguez Live Fire Complex to begin training exercises that will certify their performance and demonstrate their readiness and lethality.

Throughout the exercise, numerous training events are set to unfold at ranges across Korea, spanning small arms practice, tank crew qualifications, fire support certifications, and a dynamic Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise. The deployment will feature Abrams tanks, Paladins, mortars, and Apache helicopters engaged in a variety of tactical movements and missions.

As well, the readiness exercise will be supported by personnel from the Korean military and various branches of the U.S. military.

“There are many units, including Korean Nationals, supporting this EDRE,” said Carr. “We are the main effort and will rely on these other units to ensure success. We will collaborate closely with our counterparts to represent the 1st Armored Division with excellence.”

By the end of the EDRE in late August, the Soldiers of 1ABCT aim to demonstrate their commitment to enhancing interoperability, fostering mutual understanding, and delivering a unified and effective response to future global challenges.

“I want my Soldiers to take pride in their ability to be prepared, ready, and lethal at all times,” Carr emphasized. “Their skill, knowledge, initiative, and character are crucial for the unit’s success. Ultimately, they are key stakeholders in the organization’s ability to succeed, and they must always take that responsibility seriously.”
