JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – Chief Master Sgt. Travon Dennis, 4th Air Force command chief, visited the 433rd Airlift Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, Aug. 3-4, meeting with leaders and Airmen from across the Alamo Wing.
Dennis toured the 433rd AW’s operations, maintenance, mission support and medical groups, and recognized the successes of superior performers. He also hosted an hour-long enlisted call at the Bob Hope Theater, where he spoke of his career and upbringing. He also emphasized the importance of discipline, calling it the cornerstone of leadership.
“[Discipline] helps set the foundation,” he said. “It builds up to the next level. Once you receive the proper levels of development, it’s going to shape you. It sharpens you for the next level so that you are prepared for any fight—any contingency.”
He further underscored the significance of the Air Force Reserve Command’s TASKORD ‘23.
“You should know what that TASKORD is,” said Dennis. “You should have read it. You should understand it. If you don’t, you could ask somebody, ‘what does this mean? How do I help message? How do I ensure that we are living up to these standards?’”
Finally, Dennis discussed how vital it is to connect with teammates and check in on each other. He stressed to the auditorium full of enlisted Airmen that “It’s okay to say, ‘I need help,’” and told a story of overcoming a difficult deployment with the help of his unit’s chaplain.
“Every job that I’ve had has been the best job because I’ve worked with amazing individuals who’ve helped set me up for success in part so that I can do for others,” he said. “That is a legacy.”
