    111th Attack Wing

Master Sgt. Earl Scott, affectionately known as “Big E”, the 111th Force Support Squadron chaplain assistant, retired after more than 37 years of exceptional military service during a ceremony here on Aug. 3, 2024.

Lt. Col. Tony Repic, 111FSS Chaplain, presided over the ceremony, where family, servicemembers and friends gathered to celebrate Scott’s numerous achievements.

The packed ceremony was not only a testament to Scott’s military service, but to the relationships he’s built within his community as a teacher, mentor, comrade, and friend.

“He loves people,” said Repic. “He has a way of engaging them with one of his favorite questions being ‘hey, do you remember me?’”

He engages everyone he passes, young Airmen, upper leadership, and everyone in between.

After 19 years in the U.S. Navy and a three-year break in service, Scott joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in 1998, deploying multiple times.

“I have no regrets,” said Scott. “Serving is one of the best decisions I’ve made.”

His time in service was well spent – always lending a hand, imparting wisdom, uplifting others.

“I will miss his counsel,” said Repic. “With his credentials, he may be more qualified as Chaplain than me.”

With over 20 years of education, earning multiple degrees, teaching over 10 years in Christian schools and writing three books, all while maintaining his military career, Scott also earned the nickname “Coach” from his students and mentees.

In all areas of his life, military and civilian, Scott has always aimed to encourage and inspire others.

“I was approached for opportunities where I could have put on more rank,” said Scott. “But I turned those opportunities down. It is not always about rank. I stayed where I was happy, with a great team, and where I felt like I could have the most impact.”

As retirement gifts were presented to Scott, and many stood to speak about the way he personally influenced them in such positive ways, it was evident that many will always remember “Big E”.
