MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – With the Frontiers in Flight Airshow coming up on Aug. 24-25, 2024, attendees’ safety and ease is the top priority for the event.

While this event is free, all attendees over the age of 18 are required to present a state- or federal government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.

“As with any event with large crowds, public safety is paramount, and because of this, Team McConnell has implemented security and safety measures,” said Master Sgt. Jacob Frierdich, 22nd Security Forces Squadron operations superintendent. “Consistent with previously successful airshows, we will be enforcing all general laws and safety codes along with strict adherence to our prohibited items list.”

To help make the event a success, the 22nd SFS and 22nd Air Refueling Wing Airshow Office came up with a list of items not allowed at the event.

Hydration will be especially important, given the typical daytime temperatures in August. Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinking water in a non-glass container, filled, to use and refill throughout the day to help prevent heat injuries. There will be free water fill locations in the general public parking lot and on the airshow ramp for refilling your water. Given the typical summer temperatures, powdered mini-hydration packages which replenish electrolytes and can be added to bottled water containers after entry are also recommended.

There will also be bottled water for purchase.

Excluding water, no outside food or drink, including alcohol, in addition to marijuana and other illegal drugs, are not allowed.

Pocket knives, mace, firearms, and other types of weapons, as well as toys resembling firearms, are not permitted. Flammable items, cooking equipment, fireworks, spray paint and silly string are also prohibited.

To not interfere with communications among the airshow team, walkie talkies, amateur (HAM) radios and scanners will not be allowed at Frontiers in Flight. Drones of any kind and radio-controlled aircraft are not authorized at the event.

Walking sticks and animals will not be allowed. Canes, walkers and service animals with a medical necessity are allowed.

Large, portable sun protection such as large umbrellas, wheeled recreational devices, coolers, balloons and bags over 1 cubic foot, round out the list of what not to bring to the 2024 Frontiers in Flight Airshow.
