SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill.-- The 375th Air Mobility Command's ribbon-cutting ceremony at Scott Air Force Base unveiled the newly renovated Data Center, August 5, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility bolsters the United States' global mission capabilities and provides critical support to the Department of Defense.
Tech. Sgt. Joseph Williams narrated the event and highlighted the center's ability to connect numerous bases and support the operations of several combatant commands.
The center underwent its first significant renovation in 2020 in response to flooding caused by a sump pump failure in 2016. This modernization effort transformed the facility with upgraded communication, electrical, HVAC, and structural infrastructure. It also expanded the center by 20,000 square feet of office space.
The collaboration between the communications squadron and base civil engineers, along with support from mission partners, proved crucial in maintaining operations throughout the renovation. With contributions from the contracting squadron, AMC, and various mission partners, including DISA, the project received an additional $20 million in funding for infrastructure requirements.
The migration of systems was deftly executed without service interruptions, thanks to the efforts of key individuals from around Team Scott. The dedication of these professionals and the tireless work of the Communications Squadron cyber experts ensured the successful completion of this essential project for the United States defense capabilities.
