FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Springfield native and U.S. Army Colonel Tyler B. Partridge assumed command of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade on June 28, 2024, in a ceremony hosted by the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell.
“I have never taken command of a unit better trained, better tested, and ready,” Partridge said during the ceremony. “To the Wings of Destiny Brigade: your legacy, your storied history and your most recent accomplishments are impressive and truly without peer. It is with sincere dedication and commitment that we join together to continue advancing the capability and capacity of the Destiny Brigade.”
Partridge’s new position marks the most recent assignment in a military career spanning more than 20 years. He was born in Springfield, Ill., to Bruce Partridge and his late wife, Regina. While attending Springfield High School, he was a wrestling team member, an Eagle Scout in Troop 36 and a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church youth group.
After his high school graduation in 1998, Partridge attended the United States Military Academy where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and commissioned as an active-duty finance officer in 2002.
Upon graduating from West Point, Partridge completed the Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Gregg-Adams, Va., before reporting to his first assignment with the 106th Finance Battalion in Vilseck, Germany.
With aspirations of becoming an army pilot, Partridge transitioned from finance to aviation. He completed Army Initial Entry Rotary Wing Training and Advanced Graduate Flight Training at Fort Novosel, Ala., earning his qualification as a CH-47 Chinook pilot. Additionally, Partridge is qualified in the MH-47G and MH-6 helicopters.
Over the years, he has risen through the officer ranks, serving in various leadership and staff positions at the platoon, company and battalion levels. Partridge served in South Korea, Fort Campbell, Ky,. Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and Fort Carson, Colo.
Most recently, Partridge attended the Air War College in Montgomery, Ala., where he earned his master’s degree in strategic studies.
Over the course of his career, Partridge earned the Combat Action, Master Aviator, Pathfinder, Air Assault, and Parachutist Badges. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with “V” device, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, and four Overseas Ribbons.
Partridge is married to the former Teresa McDonnell of Springfield, Ill.. They are the proud parents of Thatcher, Tula, and Theodore.
“We will move forward united in purpose in pursuit of army aviation's most noble cause: to support our ground forces and help them accomplish their mission,” Partridge said as he concluded his ceremony remarks. “I look forward to working side by side, to continue training to ensure all of us are ready for our next rendezvous with destiny.”
