NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, NY- The 107th Attack Wing Communications Flight has been officially redesignated as a Squadron. This change is part of a wider initiative within the Air National Guard (ANG) to redesignate all communications flights as squadrons.

The 107th Attack Wing's redesignation became official in November of last year. However, the ceremony to mark this change was held after the return of deployed troops.

This delay ensured that all members of the unit could participate in the event, highlighting the unit's commitment to unity and operational continuity.

The redesignation of the Communications Flight to a Squadron is part of a broader initiative by the Air National Guard (ANG) to upgrade all communications flights.

"I think it shows that Comm/ Cyber is growing and getting some positive exposure," said Airman First Class Jason Spikes. "We see a lot of people from other branches and career fields cross training into ours."

This transition aims to provide more opportunities for manning and growth within the units. By shifting from a Flight to a Squadron, the 107th Attack Wing is expected to enhance its operational capabilities and efficiency.

Master Sgt Brad Gilder, also of 107 Comm Squadron agreed.

"To me, this move shows that the Air Force has confidence in us to build up our troop strength to better support our wing and potential Mission Defense Teams that may come," Gilder said.

The redesignation also aligns with the ANG’s strategic goals of improving readiness and adaptability in response to the evolving demands of modern military operations. With increased personnel and resources, the newly designated Squadron will be better equipped to meet the challenges of both current and future missions.

"Cyberspace has become a major weapon in today's world, and will only continue to grow," said Spikes.

This transition not only reflects a change in nomenclature but also symbolizes the unit’s dedication to maintaining a high standard of excellence in its mission to support national defense.
