FORT LIBERTY, N.C.- XVIII Airborne Corps welcomes incoming members of the Corps staff during a Dragon Honors Ceremony, Aug. 16, 2024.

Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue, commanding general of the XVIII Airborne Corps, leads the ceremony with recognizing the incoming Deputy Commanding General Brig. Gen. John P. Cogbill and additional staff of the XVIII Airborne Corps.

“When you talk about a guy with a very incredibly diverse background to do anything John’s there,” said Donahue. “There’s a guy that can drive this command in particular into the future.”

After serving as the chief of staff of the Joint Special Operations Command, Cogbill served as the deputy commander for operations of the 101st Airborne Division and the chief of staff of the XVIII Airborne Corps.

“I’m super proud to be back here wearing the dragon patch being a member of America’s Contingency Corps, and I’m ready to get to work,” said Cogbill. “Airborne, all the way.”
Donahue also introduced Brig. Gen. Jay A. MacKeen, the incoming assistant commanding general of operations.

“We’re genuinely excited about being here and are looking forward to connecting with this vibrant military community,” said Mackeen. “It is evident that the XVIII AIrborne Corps has put a great deal of care into fortifying our local partnerships, and I look forward to helping strengthen those bands.”

Like Cogbill, Col. Peter L. Gilbert, the incoming assistant commanding general support, who once served in the XVIII Airborne Corps as a battalion commander, 307th Brigade Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, and is excited to return to Fort Liberty.

“Kristen and I are truly honored by your presence, and so happy to return back to Fort Liberty on our third tour back,” said Gilbert.

Last but not least, Mr. Robert D. Braun, who served as the chief technology officer in the XVIII Airborne Corps prior to assuming his duties as the senior technology advisor to the Corps, speaks about how when he went into the industry, he was able to stay connected to an organization that allowed him the ability to continue supporting soldiers.

“I was always exposed to the XVIII Airborne Corps, driving change, driving the army, incorporating new technologies and new solutions to actually get after everything that I was passionate about,” said Braun. “So, I approached for the opportunity to come to this Corps and serve as the chief technology officer.”

The XVIII Airborne Corps is proud to welcome these leaders into the Sky Dragon formation. The paratroopers, soldiers, and units of the XVIII Airborne Corps will always stand trained and ready to respond to the nation’s call anytime, anywhere. Airborne, All The Way!
