Fort Drum, New York – Can you hear me? The Signal, Intelligence, and Sustainment Company of the 42nd Infantry Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion successfully provides communications for three Command Posts on August 13, 2024, at Fort Drum, New York during their Command Post Exercise (CPX).
A system which has not been set up since 2015 and 2006, soldiers of SIS Co worked through several issues to successfully erect the 30-meter High-Capacity Line of Sight communications antenna. Despite the issues Soldiers faced when setting up the antenna, the HCLOS was operational within ten hours.
The HCLOS antenna system provides command posts with an extended bandwidth capability to communicate across further distances, increasing the overall influence of the command and control in their area of operations.
Commander of SIS Co ‘Atlas 6’, Capt. Joseph Bologna, was extremely proud of his young team of Signal soldiers.
“Sgt. Daren Ko led a team of young HCLOS operators, Spcs. Mateo John, Jovaughn Robinson, and James Landry, through this successful equipment deployment. Ko provided them with the knowledge and ability to safely and effectively accomplish this great task.” Bologna said.
Commanding General of the 42nd, Maj. Gen. Joseph Biehler was impressed by the soldiers’ hard work and took the time to give kudos to the team and get a hands-on look at his signal equipment.
Commander of HHBn, Lt. Col. Katie Schin also took the time to congratulate and thank the team of SIS Co soldiers who were behind the success of the HCLOS system.
The SIS Co team hit a milestone by marking off two significant training blocks in just two days. The HCLOS system’s success came just a day after one of the SIS Co platoons successfully supported a TAC jump – when the command post in the exercise moved the location of their tactical operations center on August 12, 2024.
Deputy Commander of Operations with the 42nd, Brig. Gen. Christopher Cronin took part in the TAC jump where he spoke directly with the platoon of SIS Co soldiers who provided explanations of the equipment being used in the exercise.
SIS Co’s success in both training exercises demonstrates the Rainbow Division can maintain command and control of the battlefield. In the spirit of Fort Drum 10th Mountain’s motto ‘Climb to Glory’, SIS Co went ‘To the Top!’ as a 30-meter antenna stands tall next to their main command post.
    “Comms are good!” Bologna said.
