Construction on the Muldoon Gate on Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson on the new canopy continues, and is expected to be complete soon.
The Muldoon Gate has been one of two gates on the installation without a cover for the personnel who staff the entrances. The canopy is part of an overhaul which will also replace the current sharp winding inbound lanes with raised speed tables to improve safety and quality of life for security forces, military police and patrons alike.

“The canopy is a necessity when it comes to getting out of the inclement weather Alaska pretty frequently presents,” says U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Adam Klockziem, the section chief of operations and training for the 673d Security Forces Squadron. “It's definitely going to improve day-to-day functionality, and overall well-being for our defenders.”

With Alaska receiving near-record levels of snow this past winter, the canopy is designed to shield defenders from the elements and keep them protected and ready year round.

“I think the whole unit is excited about it, especially our team working that gate,” said Klockziem. “It really highlights the unit and [leadership] getting after it to take care of our Airmen and Soldiers, because this is definitely a big thing to give back to them”.

With winter approaching members of the Security Forces team have expressed gratitude regarding the new additions along with the timeliness in which it is being completed.
Construction on the new additions is on schedule and expected to be complete Sep. 3, Muldoon gate will be fully operational and open to those on the installation Sep. 4, following a series of final inspections.
