MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The retirement ceremony for Col. Brian Mullery, Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4 logistics group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, took place on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Aug. 16, 2024. Mullery, who served 42 years in the United States Marine Corps, is a recipient of the Association of Marine Corps Logisticians Lifetime Achievement Award signed by U.S. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

According to marinecorpslogistics.org the AMCL Lifetime Achievement Award is given to exceptional Marines that embody the AMCL. Mullery attributes his success and nomination to his creativity and unique applications of technology to accomplish logistical challenges.

“You have to be creative in today's world,” said Mullery. “How do we use technology… to deliver ammunition, water and chow. So, I don't have to send a truck down the road full of Marines to get blown up by an IED.”

Mullery’s extensive career began when he enlisted in the USMC in 1983. He ranked up to gunnery sergeant in 1996 and commissioned later that year through the meritorious commissioning program.

“Brian reached out and pointed out, ‘Although he was past the cutoff age, he was actually saving the Marine Corps time and money,’” said retired USMC Lt. Col. John P. Mullery, Mullery’s brother. “Most selected were sent off to college and he had already accomplished this.”

Mullery’s colleagues and subordinates have given him high praise for his leadership and how much time he takes to interact with everyone, regardless of rank. As a testament to Mullery’s character, the AMCL Lifetime Achievement Award submission was drafted and submitted by his peers unbeknownst to Mullery.

“Be the leader you want to follow,” said Mullery. “You have to be the hardest working guy in your working party is the way I see it.”
