FORT STEWART, Ga. — The Marne Innovation Center here has developed an internship program designed to provide ROTC cadets with the opportunity to explore innovative solutions to key problems faced by Army units.
The 6-week course offers cadets from universities across the region hands-on experience in 3D printing technology, prototype manufacturing, client communication and troubleshooting. The internship also provides valuable experience in project management as they work alongside Soldiers at Fort Stewart.
“The Marne Innovation Center’s goal is to enhance its assets by incorporating diverse perspectives to foster rapid Soldier-led innovation that addresses real-world challenges,” said Mathew Rigdon, a ROTC cadet attending the internship program.
The program is designed to mentor cadets, improve training components and provide timely solutions to maintenance and repair issues through prototype manufacturing. Cadets also have the chance to contribute to ongoing projects, including creating custom tools and developing new equipment while gaining a unique perspective on technology and military operations.
“Though relatively new to Fort Stewart, the Marne Innovation Center has made a significant impact in its two years by collaborating with units to address Soldier problems,” Rigdon said.
Established in 2022, the Marne Innovation Center has become a key hub for technological advancement at Fort Stewart.
“Originally intended as a single-focus project, the Marne Innovation Center quickly evolved into a multi-functional internship, exposing us to various units and projects while allowing creative freedom to support them,” Rigdon added.
The program continues to address the needs of the 3rd Infantry Division. Its focus is on fostering creativity and innovation amongst Soldiers through problem solving and solutions. As the internship program progresses, Fort Stewart officials expect it to enhance cadet skills and contribute significantly to Army efforts.
