    CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea – Members from 8th Army and III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos held a Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA) Mobile Exercise at Lt. Gen. Thomas S Vandal Training Complex on Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea, August 28, 2024.
    The KATUSA program had reserve Soldiers train with United States Army Soldiers in several fields, evaluating their combat proficiency, mission readiness, and equipment knowledge.
    U.S. Army Sgt. Fiona Humphrey, a combat medic assigned to 65th Medical Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, participated in the event as an instructor and grader for the first aid part of the exercise.
    “Whenever we go through training, we make sure that we are being very diligent,” Humphrey said. “Events such as this help our alliance because we both get to teach and learn different skills from each other.”
    The exercise was one of the final parts of the Korean-peninsula-wide exercise, Ulchi Freedom Shield, which is a multinational exercise between the United Nations Command, United States Forces Korea, Combined Forces Korea, and Republic of Korea armed forces. This exercise held an array of tasks, ranging from first aid training, weapon engagement skills training, to CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) training, all the way to weapon systems familiarity testing lanes.
    U.S. Army Pvt. 1st Class Hitoshi Kanemoto, a military police assigned to 411th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, served as a grader for the event as he was on Camp Humphreys as his unit was on rotation from Fort Cavazos, Texas. Kanemoto was an instructor and grader for the M249B light machine gun familiarity lanes.
    “Events like this builds partnership, friendship, and communications between our counterparts and the ROK,” Kanemoto said. “The Korean Army learns very fast; they are very eager to see what we have to show and teach them.”
    The event’s training lanes ended around 5 p.m. Korean Standard Time, where the rest of the day was spent with classroom instruction as well as any concluding final questions for the graders.
