The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center recently received the 2022 Air and Space Organizational Excellence Award.

The award period covered Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2022. The 2022 award marks the 10th time AFNWC has received the honor, which was called the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award until 2020.
During this period, AFNWC re-engineered civilian pay operations and standards, resulting in a $15 million savings against the 2022 budget and establishing executable future hiring goals.

It also drove design certification for the Weapons Generation Facility program and reduced the construction schedule by 10 months. In addition, the center completed a six-year lifetime extension of the Weapons System Storage and Security System, ensuring safety and security of commands spanning global operations.

During 2022, the center obligated $3.2 billion for nearly 1,000 contract actions, such as contract modifications, task orders and delivery orders.

Its environmental policy team collaborated with more than 80 tribal and government members to sign a seven-state cultural agreement, allowing construction of over 600 facilities for deployment of the Sentinel ICBM weapon system.

“Congratulations to our hard-working team at the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center,” said Maj. Gen. John Newberry, commander of AFNWC. “This award recognizes the phenomenal work AFNWC does every day and the outstanding accomplishments made within the center. It is a testament to the dedication and commitment our team has to the mission.”

Headquartered at Kirtland AFB, the center has about 2,000 personnel assigned to 20 locations worldwide, including at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts; Hill AFB, Utah; Eglin AFB, Florida; and Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, as well as at additional locations throughout the United States and Europe.
