The U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence welcomed its first active-duty Deputy Commanding General in a ceremony today at the Eisenhower Conference and Catering Center on post.

Commanding General Maj. Gen. Ryan Janovic welcomed Brig. Gen. Mark Miles before a small gathering of local community leaders, Fort Eisenhower leadership and CCoE staff.

Noting the many changes visible on post and the importance of the Cyber Center of Excellence to the Army, Janovic said “Our Army, our United States Army, is transforming. It is transforming while doing its mission, while actively supporting operations abroad, while fighting through the demands that we have while facing a protentional near peer threat. Our Army is transforming, and Fort Eisenhower is a central part of that transformation.”

Today’s ceremony marked the transformation of leadership at CCoE where in addition to an Army National Guard Deputy Commanding General, the CCoE will now have an active-duty one-star general charged with integrating doctrine, training and policy across the U.S. Army’s Cyber, Signal and Electromagnetic Warfare capabilities.

Miles is no stranger to the Central Savannah River Area as his first Army assignment as a young 2nd Lieutenant in 1995 was to then Fort Gordon as a Signaleer and it is also where he met his future wife, now retired Col. Melissa Miles of Aliquippa Pa.

Spending 29 years supporting multiple Operations and deployments, Miles returns to his Army roots at Fort Eisenhower. Read his bio here: https://cybercoe.army.mil/Cyber-Center-of-Excellence/Leadership/Leadership-View-Page/Article/3861599/brig-gen-mark-d-miles/

After being provided a unit patch, a commanding general’s belt and a sizeable amount of unit coins to use for recognizing Soldiers, Miles stated, "Because technology is evolving at a rapid pace, we as an Army, have a mandate and a core requirement to consistently be evolving to meet that pace. To be a part of the best team in the world that has that mission, is an exciting challenge and an honor".

“I am very excited and a little nervous. I think that goes with the excitement, but really excited to join the team and rejoin this community,” said the Lyndonville, N.Y. native.
