Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment, Oregon Army National Guard, and 1-183rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, Idaho Army National Guard, began their week-long Culminating Training Event at Fort Cavazos, Texas, Sept. 10, 2024. The CTE is a training event that consists of a variety of activities in which Soldiers must utilize their skills during mock exercises in preparation for potential real-world scenarios during their upcoming mobilization in support of Kosovo Forces as part of Operation Joint Guardian. The 2-162nd and the 1-183rd will both be subordinate commands of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oregon Army National Guard, during their upcoming KFOR deployment. During day one of the CTE, Soldiers were evaluated on their ability to exit a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter and enter a Military Operations in Urban Terrain site, also known as a MOUT site, and effectively assist partner nation forces with tactical operations and peacekeeping efforts among the local population.
The KFOR mission is focused on building a secure environment and guaranteeing the freedom of movement through all Kosovo territory for all citizens, irrespective of their ethnic origins, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244. KFOR has been operational since 1999, and the incoming multinational command is the 34th rotation of its type.
