Los Angeles Air Force Base hosted a Great Power Competition-themed Sports Day for U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command programs and units located out of the headquarters location in El Segundo on August 28, 2024.
The annual event focuses on fostering comradery for Guardians, Airmen, civilians, and their families, as well as the USSF values of connection and commitment. Participants across the command also displayed the USSF value of courage in their hard-fought pursuit of glory to take home the Sports Day championship.
The defending champions, the Military Communications & Positioning, Navigation and Timing Program Executive Office (PEO) worked to hold their title but were unseated by Space Base Delta 3 (SBD3) in this year’s competition. The Space Sensing PEO came in to take home second, with Military Communications & Positioning, Navigation and Timing rounding out the podium with the third.
Participants competed across 11 solo and team-based events such as volleyball, dodgeball, a two-mile run, soccer, cornhole and tug-of-war.
