GALZIGNANO, Italy, Sept 11 - Military and diplomatic leaders from the U.S., West Africa, and other partner nations gathered in Italy this week for the annual African Land Forces Colloquium (ALFC), hosted by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force Africa.
The two-day forum is designed to solidify relationships, exchange information on current topics of mutual interest, and encourage cooperation in addressing challenges.
“This is an opportunity for all of us to have candid conversations about shared challenges,” said Major General Andrew Gainey, Commanding General, Southern European Task Force, Africa. “Every conversation, every shared idea, brings us one step closer to our goal – a more secure and stable West Africa.
During ALFC, leaders participated in two plenary sessions focused on the colloquium’s theme of “Integrated approaches to regional security in West Africa.”
During his closing comments, Gainey emphasized that partnerships in Africa are the key to tackling issues that face West Africa.
”Our partners in West Africa face growing threats – but they are not alone. And make no mistake, our adversaries can’t match the strength of the partnerships in this room. So I’m hopeful about the future” said Gainey.
ALFC is the precursor to the largest annual defense forum held on the African continent, the African Land Forces Summit. The summit will be held in Ghana in April 2025 and cohosted by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa, and the Ghanaian Armed Forces.
