    72nd Air Base Wing

Between July and August, Tinker Air Force Base held several exercises throughout the installation, placing Airmen through tests designed to enhance readiness, improve operational capabilities, and ensure effective responses to various wartime scenarios.
The combination of no-notice and scheduled exercise activities, known as War Wagon 24-03, are crucial for the Air Force’s Great Power Competition Reoptimization, enhancing strategic readiness and demonstrating capabilities.
“These exercises simulate real-world conditions to test and refine strategies, communication and teamwork,” said Lt Col Aaron Bahr, 72nd Air Base Wing Inspector General. “Through realistic simulations and evaluations, we aim to identify areas of improvement, ensure all Airmen are prepared for real-world challenges posed by peer competitors, validate procedures, and strengthen overall mission readiness”.
The exercise also aimed to test force deployment from home station and capability to complete mission essential tasks in a contested, degraded, and operationally limited environment.
“Generate and Employ Phases test home station mission essential tasks and stress the employment process with challenges we could realistically face during real world operations,” said Bahr. “Ultimately, the goal is to maintain a high level of preparedness to respond effectively to mission requirements or contingencies.”
Although the primary goal of War Wagon is to certify Airman to deploy, it fulfills a secondary purpose to instill a warrior ethos and grow mission ready warfighters.
“War Wagon enables Airmen to put their training to the test and ensure they are ready to deploy,” said Col Abby Ruscetta, 72nd Air Base Wing and Installation Commander. “We must ensure our Airman are ready and set up for success.”
By simulating potential conflict scenarios, these exercises ensure that Airmen are prepared to deter aggression, respond to threats, and maintain a competitive edge. This approach signals commitment to national defense objectives, reinforcing the importance of adaptability and readiness in an era marked by increased competition among global powers.
