Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division held its inaugural Development Program Social on Sept. 12, to celebrate recent graduates of its leadership and technical development programs and promote professional growth opportunities within the organization.
The event provided a platform for participants from programs including Leadership EDGE, Naval Leadership Development Program, Junior Leadership Development Program, Program Management 101, Technical Excellence Development Program, and Engineer and Scientist Development Program to share their experiences. These initiatives are essential in fostering leadership and technical expertise, contributing to NAWCWD’s mission of advancing naval warfare capabilities.
Attendees had the chance to network with graduates and senior leaders, gaining firsthand insights into the benefits of these development initiatives. Program participants offered guidance at informational tables to those interested in joining future cohorts.
Cordell Bennigson, an Echelon Front instructor and former U.S. Marine Corps officer, delivered the keynote address. Echelon Front is a leadership consultancy made up of decorated veterans and professionals from various fields. They specialize in delivering practical, experience-based leadership solutions drawn from combat leadership lessons.
“Leadership is not about rank or title; it's about how you influence others and work together as a team,” Bennigson said. “The most effective leaders are those who take ownership of everything in their sphere, who step up and take responsibility.”
Bennigson closed by expressing his deep appreciation for the audience's role in supporting the warfighter and the broader mission. He highlighted the essential nature of teamwork across all levels, from family members to those developing the latest technologies.
"It takes a team to serve our nation. It takes family members, and it takes people training and developing new technologies behind the scenes to make the tip of the spear possible," Bennigson said, underscoring that the combined efforts of all personnel enable mission success and safeguard those on the front lines.
“NAWCWD’s development programs are designed to build a pipeline of leaders and technical experts who will carry our mission forward,” said Andrew Kirk, workforce development consultant at NAWCWD. “We are proud of our graduates and look forward to supporting their continued success.”
The Development Program Social highlights NAWCWD's mission to deliver integrated and interoperable warfighting capabilities through cutting-edge research, development, acquisition, test, evaluation, and sustainment to provide the warfighter the decisive advantage. This event reflected NAWCWD’s focus on cultivating a highly engaged and technically capable workforce, ensuring its personnel are prepared to meet the evolving challenges of naval warfare and advance the Navy's capabilities.
