OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea – Members assigned to the 51st Fighter Wing participated in Integrated Mustang 24-5 at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Sept. 20, 2024.
Integrated Mustang is a tour held once a quarter that aids squadron commanders, front line- supervisors and Airmen with information to showcase why their efforts in South Korea are important.
“I am sure everyone who is stationed here knows about the Korean War that happened about 70 years ago,” said 1st Lt. Braedan Hedge, 25th Fighter Squadron pilot, “but very few Airmen understand why our presence here is so essential. Through this program, they can learn how we keep millions of lives safe 24/7.”
The tour begins with an early morning brief to learn the roles that the U.S. military plays in the Korean theater, as well as the missions of the A-10 Thunderbolt II, the F-16 Fighting Falcon and the U-2 Dragon Lady.
After the briefings are conducted, personnel experience the aircraft first hand. They also participate in a flight simulator of those aircraft after their tour.
“Getting to see the aircraft and test out the flight simulator was a great experience,” said Senior Airman Daija Dotts, 51st Comptroller Squadron financial operations technician. “My career field supports more from behind the scenes, so it was interesting to see a different side of the mission and understand how we all support each other through our jobs.”
The second half of the day consisted of learning about the 51st Operations Support Squadron and their efforts to support the 51st FW ‘Fight Tonight’ mission.
Personnel received a tour of the 51st OSS Weather Squadron and the Airfield Operations Flight, concluding with a tour of the airfield.
“With the constant turnover of personnel, the mission everyone supports can be muddied with confusion and misunderstanding,” Hedge explained. “This is a great opportunity to learn about the 51st Fighter Wing mission and the other career fields the Air Force has to offer. It gives people a chance to make lasting connections and think about their future.”
