MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- In an effort to improve the quality of life for residents, Maxwell Air Force Base recently installed new, commercial-grade washers and dryers across several dormitory buildings. The new machines replace older residential models that often malfunctioned and drew complaints from residents.
“Each dormitory building is now equipped with a combination of standard and stackable units to better accommodate residents' needs,” said John Jones, dorm manager. “These commercial units are larger, more reliable, and enhance the overall appearance of the laundry rooms.
The inclusion of stackable units allows for efficient use of space and ensures that laundry facilities are accessible on multiple floors, reducing the need for residents to travel to a single location. There are 10 new machines in one building and 16 in another.
The successful implementation of these improvements is attributed to the proactive efforts of the dorm council and Airmen living in the dorms. They worked collaboratively to identify issues and present a list of priorities to base leadership, emphasizing the need for better laundry facilities. Their dedication and teamwork played a crucial role in bringing these enhancements to fruition.
This improvement project wasn’t limited to Maxwell dormitories but also extended to Gunter Annex dormitories, ensuring both locations received the new washers and dryers. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for all residents across the installations.
"The improvements will be beneficial for the airmen living in the dorms," said Airman 1st Class Luke Moore, former dorm council president. "These changes are important steps in the right direction, and I believe they will significantly enhance the quality of life for the Airmen in the long run."
Looking to the future, Maxwell AFB is also amid construction on renovating new dorms to further improve accommodations for Airmen. The new housing will complement ongoing improvements, reflecting the base's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all personnel.
Gunter Annex is also undergoing further improvements, with some of their rooms currently being renovated. These renovations will provide updated living spaces, adding to the broader effort to enhance dorm life for Airmen across both locations.
The new machines will be maintained by a new contractor, ensuring they remain in good working condition for years to come.
