Soldiers of the 41st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), held a redesignation ceremony representing the unit’s transfer to the division headquarters as 41st Engineer Battalion, Oct. 3, 2024, on Fort Drum, New York.

Col. Eric Johnson, 10th Mountain Division (LI) deputy commander-support, recognized the hard work and commitment of the 41st EB Soldiers.

“As you stand in formation, I want each of you to take a moment to reflect on what your battalion represents: dedication, resilience, and the very spirit of engineering excellence,” Johnson said.

During the ceremony, an uncasing and casing of the guidons took place. The guidon serves as a visual record of a unit’s battles, campaigns, and awards. This signified the closing of a chapter within the unit and the restructuring and continuation of progress throughout the U.S. Army.

“This reorganization, which will take place over the next few years, will ensure that the Army can deliver the right capabilities for the future fight,” Johnson said. “This is a strategic decision to restructure our formations, maximize lethality, and prepare us for the future fight.”

With the rearrangement of the division, the division commander has access to several more options to solve complex problems.

“This is pretty significant because the Army continuously adapts to today,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Brady, 41st EB commander. “This is one of those transformative periods where the organization is going to shift its composition to support future operations.”

The ceremony consisted of the Soldiers within the 41st EB receiving their 10th Mountain unit patch, instilling a sense of pride and connection to the division.

“Now as the 41st Brigade EB is redesignated under the division headquarters as the 41st EB, the division’s only EB,” Johnson said. “We are mindful of the engineer motto, ‘Essayons,’ which is French for ‘Let us try,’ a nod to French engineers who have aided the Americans.”

Johnson’s final words to the 41st EB welcomed the Soldiers to their unit’s new era and encouraged them to keep pushing forward and reach new heights under the 10th Mountain Division.

“As you move forward, continue to carry the Essayons culture: to engineer peace through strength, to build a better tomorrow for all, and to be the steadfast support for our fellow Soldiers,” Johnson said. “Every one of you plays an integral part in the success of this battalion, and together, we will rise to meet whatever challenges lie ahead.”
