Fort Cavazos, Texas- - The Signal Intelligence and Sustainment Company (SISCO), Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHBn), III Armored Corps (AC) held a change of command ceremony for the outgoing company commander, Cpt. Trenton A. Pate, and incoming company commander, Cpt. Jacqueline Y. Bailey, October 4, 2024, on Fort Cavazos, TX.
Pates was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He graduated from Old Dominion University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. He then went on to hold a Master of Science in National Security Studies from Liberty University. He enlisted in the Army as a specialist in 2016, attended Basic Combat Training and Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Moore, Georgia, commissioning into the Military Intelligence Corps.
Following OCS, he attended the Military Intelligence Basic Officer Leadership Course, then reported to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Camp Humphrey, South Korea in 2017 to serve as a Brigade Plans Officer. He then served as the Battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer before reporting to the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course (CCC) in 2021. Upon graduation, he was assigned as the Battalion Intelligence Officer for the 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade at Fort Cavazos, Texas. In 2023, he assumed command of SISCO, HHBn, III AC.
Pates believes those moving into a new leadership position should get to know their organization and Soldiers.
“Learn relationships, learn people, learn their strengths and weaknesses, learn your vulnerabilities, their families, because that’s what drives a Soldier,” Pates said.
He expressed if leadership took the time to learn about their Soldiers, they would understand their people and Soldiers and how to better meet their needs.
Pates stated, “If you do that, I think you’ll be successful.”
Although Pates felt “bittersweet” to leave SISCO and all the people who have supported him in his leadership role, he is excited for the next chapter in his Army career, which is attending the Defensive Language Institute in Monterrey, California.
”I wish nothing but the best for Cpt. Bailey as she takes over today at SISCO, HHBN, III Armored Corps, and all my leaders here I wish them nothing but the best,” Pates concluded.
Bailey, the incoming commander for SISCO, was born in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Texas A&M University-Kingsville and graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Upon graduating, she commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps. She attended the University of the Incarnate Word and graduated in December 2018 with a Masters of Art in Healthcare Administration.
After graduating from the Ordnance Basic Officer Leadership Course, she served as the maintenance control officer and the electric repair maintenance platoon leader for the 536th Support Maintenance Company, 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 25th Sustainment Brigade at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
In November 2019, Bailey deployed as the executive officer of the 40th Composite Supply Company, assigned to the 152nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. She then moved to Fort Lee, Virginia and completed the Logistics CCC.
Following CCC, she was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade as the brigade assistant S3. In April 2023, she took command of A Co., 553rd Division Sustainment Support Battalion. She deployed the unit to Poland and completed 14 months of command. In May 2024, she served as the G4 plans officer for the 1st Cavalry Division.
Bailey explained how having a support system is essential to being a leader. She went on to say her husband, who is her number one supporter, was unable to attend because he was deployed during the ceremony. However, she said she was happy to experience this occasion with her three-year-old son.
“It was great to have him here because one day he’ll look back at this and kind of see that he was able to be a part of this,” said Bailey.
She said the key to success for this position is relying on the leadership of the organization.
“Leaning on my leaders and my NCO’s and my Soldiers, they’re the ones who are going to drive me to success,” Bailey explained.
As the ceremony came to a close, a reception was held at the III AC headquarters for both parties, marking the end of one leader's time and the beginning of another's.
