Commanders, senior enlisted leaders, and spouses from 24 units throughout the Indo-Pacific region gathered for a combined U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force commanders conference at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Oct. 7-8, to discuss military force structure, access to medical care and quality of life.
“This conference is an opportunity for the commander of U.S. Forces Japan, all of the component commanders and command teams to come together for a few days to build a shared vision of the current state and the future,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Shaun Campbell, 5AF command chief.
The event was the first opportunity for incoming USFJ and 5AF commander, Lt. Gen. Stephen Jost, to meet the leaders within his command.
“A lot of change is coming over the coming weeks, months and year. I promise as a commander to wade into it with you,” said Jost. “You’ll see in my command philosophy that I have no problem rolling up my sleeves to figure out how to make the fox hole better tomorrow than it is today.”
The conference provided a streamlined environment to relay critical information and updates to leaders across the command.
“The things that we’re discussing and developing will impact every U.S. service member and their families,” said Campbell.
There is a total force commitment to maintaining a decisive advantage in the Indo-Pacific region amidst growing global threats. Events like the combined commander’s conference support that mission and ability to integrate as a force.
