CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. – Indiana Guardsmen and Air Force Reservists gathered for a week-long Joint Enlisted Leadership Symposium Oct. 22-25, 2024 at the Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger Conference Center, on Camp Atterbury, Edinburgh, Indiana.
The symposium focused on noncommissioned officer professional development, highlighted strategic leadership communication to address current and future conflicts, and develop relationships with sister service members.
“The mission of the Joint Enlisted Leadership Symposium is to help our Airmen and Soldiers understand the strategic and worldwide impact that service members in Indiana have on the National Defense Strategy,” said Chief Master Sgt. David Bush, the senior enlisted leader for Joint Force Headquarters Air Staff, Indiana Air National Guard.
Airmen and Soldiers are asked to team up together to share ideas in order to get a better sense of how their respective service components work.
“During the Enlisted Leadership Symposium we want to focus on that and get more exposure,” said Chief Master Sgt. Joshua Raveed, senior enlisted leader for the 122nd Mission Support Group. “We talk about the future and about near-peer adversaries, and we’re going to see more opportunity for joint operations.”
The program week featured briefings on intelligence and cybersecurity, career development, and mental and physical health. The group also completed an exercise at Jefferson Proving Grounds near New Marion, Indiana where they trained to shoot, move, and communicate in small teams. Finally, the symposium culminated in a capstone project in which attendees brainstormed and researched solutions to complex strategic problems in future conflicts, and presented their ideas to a panel of three chief master sergeants.
