A delegation of four supply officers from the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) visited Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) Nov. 5.
While at Naval Support Activity Philadelphia, the ROKN delegation, led by Capt. Dong-Won Lee, ROKN Chief of Supply, met with Rear Adm. Kenneth Epps, U.S. Navy Chief of Supply Corps, and Rear Adm. Kristin Acquavella, Commander, NAVSUP WSS.
During the visit, the leaders discussed the security cooperation partnership, combatting obsolescence, and WSS’s continued support for ROKN requirements.
NAVSUP WSS provides Foreign Military Sales (FMS) support for multiple ROKN maritime and aviation platforms, to include AEGIS, CIWS, P-3, P-8, and MH-60R.
“I would like to thank Rear Adm. Epps and Rear Adm. Acquavella for hosting the U.S-Korea Navy Follow-On Supply Support Review,” said Lee. “We look forward to maintaining a developmental cooperative relationship through continuous meetings.”
The ROK and U.S. navies routinely train and operate together. During major exercise RIMPAC 2024, the WSS team ensured that material required to support ROKN DDG-992 (Yulgok Yi I) was ordered and delivered prior to exercise commencement. During dockside support in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, WSS personnel worked directly with ROKN logisticians and sailors to fill urgent requirements by completing real-time stock analysis, pick-up and delivery of critical material.
“WSS is committed to ensuring our allies and partners have world-class weapon systems support to meet current and future challenges,” said Acquavella.
NAVSUP WSS provides the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and allied forces the program and supply support for the weapon systems that keep naval forces mission ready. With locations in Philadelphia; Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Norfolk, Virginia; and Tucson, Arizona, NAVSUP WSS manages operational readiness for almost 300 deployable ships, 92 submarines, and 3,700 aircraft worldwide.
