Center for Security Forces Commanding Officer Captain Joseph Bromley completed a weeklong visit to Detachment Gulfport, where U.S. Navy Sailors receive Expeditionary Combat Skills (ECS) training. The visit is part of a larger plan to visit each training activity within the CENSECFOR domain, Oct. 29.

The ECS course provides eligible naval personnel with the fundamental individual skills necessary to perform high-risk combat operations safely and professionally. The training consists of basic Naval Expeditionary Combat Command and Naval Special Warfare organization functions. The course is 26 days in length and convenes year-round.

“I think the visit was very positive and that Captain Bromley got to see what we do first-hand on a day-to-day basis while being able to meet the staff,” said Cmdr. Dylan Ross, officer in charge at Detachment Gulfport.

Bromley observed numerous aspects of ESC training, such as judgment-based engagement training, in which students are exposed to various stressors in simulated real-life scenarios and must make critical shoot/no shoot life-or-death decisions. He also observed students during week three as they learned how to apply a tourniquet, insert a naval pharyngeal, stop arterial bleeding, and other casualty combat first aid techniques.

“I appreciate the time the team at Detachment Gulfport took to provide me with an outstanding tour of their facility and for the comprehensive introduction to the Expeditionary Combat Skills course,” said Bromley.

Next, Bromley will visit Naval Technical Training Center Lackland in San Antonio, Texas, home to the U.S. Navy’s Master-at-Arms “A” School and the Military Working Dog (MWD), MWD Handler, and Kennel Master courses.

The Center for Security Forces provides specialized training to more than 20,000 students annually in Force Protection, Expeditionary Warfare, Code of Conduct, Law Enforcement, and Small Craft Operations. It has training locations across the United States and worldwide: Where Training Breeds Confidence.
