HOUSTON – Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Petty Officer Carl Roche, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, serves as a Sailor in the U.S. Navy Reserve and is assigned to Navy Reserve Center (NRC) Houston.

Roche joined the Navy 7½ years ago, seeking an organization emphasizing discipline and professionalism.

“I chose the Navy because I knew it would provide the opportunity to travel and experience more while maintaining a disciplined and active environment,” Roche said.

As a logistics specialist, Roche manages tools, supplies, and resources, ensuring mission readiness for both active and Reserve Sailors.

“My role involves providing everything from office supplies to jet engines,” Roche said. “It’s a job with significant responsibility, but I enjoy what I do.”

In addition to his logistical duties, Roche supports reservists at Navy Reserve Center Houston, helping them balance military and civilian life.

“I help bridge the gap between military and civilian life for our reservists,” Roche said. “From uniforms and meals to assisting during drill weekends, my goal is to make their process as smooth as possible. I also serve as the assistant command fitness leader, supporting Physical Readiness Tests to keep our Sailors mission-ready.”

Sailors like Roche are vital to the Navy’s global mission, showcasing the strength and adaptability of the Reserve Force. Vice Adm. Nancy Lacore, chief of the Navy Reserve and commander of the Navy Reserve Force, emphasized the importance of this contribution, “Our Reserve Force is essential to the Navy’s mission, providing strategic depth and operational flexibility,” Lacore said.

Roche reflected on some of his proudest accomplishments during his Navy career.

“One of my proudest accomplishments is being named Junior Sailor of the Quarter three times,” Roche said. “It’s rewarding to see the work I put in being recognized and valued.”

His service has also taken him to unique and far-reaching locations, broadening his horizons and enriching his experiences.

“I’ve had the chance to visit places like Antarctica, Guam, Djibouti, Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi,” Roche said. “These experiences have broadened my perspective and given me memories to last a lifetime.”

The Navy’s global operations rely on dedicated Sailors like Roche, whose efforts contribute to the nation’s security and prosperity. Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations, highlighted the significance of this commitment, “Our Sailors and civilians are the heart of our Navy, embodying character, competence, and dedication to our mission,” Franchetti said.

Reflecting on his journey, Roche expressed gratitude to those who inspired him to serve.

“I want to thank my cousin, Kevin,” Roche said. “Even though he didn’t stay in the military, he showed me what was possible and encouraged me to take the leap.”

Roche serves in a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.
