SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Georgia Air National Guard held its quarterly control grade board at the 165th Airlift Wing (AW), Savannah Air National Guard Base, on Oct. 25, led by Georgia Air National Guard Command U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Aaron Dent.

The board, which included 165 AW Command Chief Eric Rideaux and 116th Air Control Wing Command Chief Adams, allowed senior non-commissioned officers (NCOs) from a mix of career fields in the state to observe and discuss the selection process. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights into the decision-making process.

Each state is awarded a specific number of E-8 and E-9 full-time positions by the National Guard Bureau and these boards are held at the state level to aid in a fair and effective decision-making process across all respective units in the state.

Chief Master Sgt. Patrick McMahon, senior enlisted leader assigned to the 116th Mission Support Group, noted that while he had attended wing-level board meetings, this was his first experience with a state-level board. “

Chief Dent provided a lot of transparency, which will allow us to push the selection board information down to our peers and Airmen at our squadrons,” McMahon said.

Master Sgt. Meghan Hammond, a medical administrative specialist with the 116th Medical Group, appreciated the open environment, saying, “It was my first time attending the control grade selection board.

"It was an open floor to ask questions and give input," said Hammond, "This allowed for open communication, with rank set aside and freedom to raise concerns on what we think is best for our organizations.”

The control grade board, which will meet again in December, exemplifies the Georgia Air National Guard’s commitment to transparency and reinforces integrity in leadership processes across the state.
