BREMERTON, Wash. (Nov. 25, 2024) – The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) has returned to its homeport in Bremerton, Washington, following the successful completion of its triennial Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) inspection at Naval Station North Island in San Diego.
The INSURV inspection, conducted on Nov. 18-22, 2024, is a rigorous evaluation performed every three years to assess a ship’s material readiness, fitness for further service, and ability to execute its mission. The crew of the Nimitz worked diligently to ensure the ship was fully prepared for this critical assessment.
“We pulled out all the stops in preparation for INSURV,” said Capt. Doug Graber, commanding officer of USS Nimitz. “The crew’s tireless efforts and commitment to excellence have paid off, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s performance. I’m sure everyone aboard Old Salt is as excited as I am to return home and enjoy a well-deserved holiday leave period with family and friends.”
The successful completion of the INSURV inspection highlights the Nimitz’s continued readiness to support naval operations and underscores the dedication of the ship’s crew to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence.
