VILNIUS, Lithuania — U.S. Army soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division joined the Lithuanian Armed Forces and NATO allies participating in the Lithuanian Armed Forces Day with a military parade and review by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.

This year’s ceremony highlighted two monumental milestones in Lithuanian history: the 20th anniversary of their accession to NATO and the 106th anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Lithuania officially became a member of NATO in 2004. Since then, the U.S. military has partnered with the Lithuanian Armed Forces in joint training exercises and programs, collaborative exercises, and rotative deployments.

The 1st Cavalry Division works closely with Lithuania's forces, sharing critical defense strategies and providing invaluable training and military readiness support. The presence of U.S. troops in the region serves as a cornerstone of NATO’s commitment to the security architecture of the Baltic region.

“I think it is important that we do these types of things because it’s building those bonds between NATO countries,” said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Logan Rosenwald, a native of Huntsville, Texas, an armor crewman assigned to Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. “Having us here assures them that we stand together.”

Lithuanian Armed Forces Day commemorates its restoration every year after it regained independence as a sovereign nation on Nov. 23, 1918. The day also honors all servicemen, women, and veterans who have contributed to the nation’s defense.

“It is a national holiday and we build these bonds, we might as well come support and show our appreciation of them,” said U.S. Army Cpl. Eloy Flores, a native of Fargo, N.D., and an indirect fire infantryman assigned to Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

The shared values of democracy and mutual respect were demonstrated through NATO commemorating the day with our Lithuanian allies. The U.S. soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division represented the steadfast partnership that Lithuania and the U.S. share of a secure future.
