CAMP KOŚCIUZKO, Poland – U.S. Army Garrison Poland passed the mantle of leadership from Command Sgt. Maj. Kirk L. Ray to Command Sgt. Jason D. Jones during a change of responsibility ceremony, Nov. 26. The ceremony actualized the garrison’s growing permanence in Poland and its preparations to welcome military families to the home of V Corps forward.
“Today’s ceremony symbolizes continuity, growth, and our enduring commitment to NATO’s Eastern Flank,” said Ray. Reflecting on his tenure, he added, “over the past year, we’ve built strong relationships with our Polish partners and set the stage for a permanent presence. The upcoming arrival of families further cements our mission here in Poland.”
As the garrison grows, its role has expanded significantly since its establishment in March 2023 as the Army’s first permanent garrison in Poland and the 80th worldwide. The garrison now supports over 7,500 Soldiers across 11 installations, including major sites in Poznań, Powidz, and Świętoszów.
“Our partnership with the Polish government and military is key to our success. Together, we will ensure that USAG Poland continues to thrive as a home for Soldiers, Civilians, and soon, their families,” said Jones.
The Army’s recent announcement of 24-month adult-aged dependent-eligible tours signals a significant milestone in its growth. “Welcoming 200 family members next summer is more than just a logistical achievement—it’s a testament to our commitment to creating a vibrant, family-oriented community,” said Ray.
In anticipation of families coming, the garrison is working closely with local schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations. USAG Poland’s Army Community Services has already begun facilitating events for spouses already located in Poland to foster connections and build a support network in Poznan.
“We are creating a network of support for families that mirrors what they would experience at other Army garrisons across Europe,” said Jones. “Together, we will overcome challenges and seize opportunities to ensure this garrison remains a vital part of NATO’s Eastern Flank.”
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic passing of the colors, signifying the seamless transition of leadership and the enduring mission of USAG Poland. With roots firmly planted, the garrison is poised to grow into a thriving community that supports both its mission and the Soldiers and families who call it home.
