Key Field Air National Guard Base, Miss. -- The 186th Air Refueling Wing hosted its 2024 Family Day event during the December drill. This event, held annually at the base, plays a significant role in fostering a sense of community among the military families.
Airmen and their families gathered at the base to enjoy food and games and spend time with other military families. A KC-135R Stratotanker from the 186th Air Refueling Wing and several military vehicles were on display.
Family Day is more than merely an annual celebration; it has evolved into a cherished tradition that is handed down through generations.
“This is a family affair for us. I brought my children to Family Day every year since they were small children and now both my sons are serving with me and attending with their own families,” said Lt. Col. John Ziller.
Several dedicated volunteers from Key Field organized this special event to thank the family members who make sacrifices so that guard members can perform their military duty each month and throughout the year. Their selfless efforts are a testament to the strong community spirit at the base.
This annual tradition grants members the chance to connect with their families, while also ensuring that the families of the members feel a greater sense of belonging within the Air National Guard.
“My favorite part of Family Day is spending time with my family and seeing all the children and military personnel get together and join hand in hand,” said family member Carkister Oliver. “I like that you can’t tell who is who because many people are in civilian clothes, and everyone is helping out and serving.”
Family Day allows leadership, wing members, and their families to get together and build camaraderie.
