Provost Marshals assigned to Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) convened with partners from local law enforcement and federal agencies during a quarterly meeting on Dec. 6, 2024, to strengthen coordination efforts ahead of the 60th Presidential Inauguration.

The meeting underscores the importance of interagency cooperation to ensure the event’s success and safety. This collaboration is integral to the security of one of the nation's most significant ceremonial events, which draws dignitaries, officials and citizens from across the country.

“It takes all of us to ensure the success of the upcoming presidential inauguration and by no means can we support this effort alone,” said U.S. Army Col. Mark R. Danner, Provost Marshal for the JTF-NCR. “It is dependent upon our interagency partnerships that we must foster. That is built upon the right organizational climate, the right relationships and then the right collaboration with shared understanding toward meeting our mission.”

As the Jan. 20, 2025, inauguration date approaches, the JTF-NCR and its partners will continue to meet regularly to review plans and adjust as needed. The collaborative spirit displayed at Fort McNair sets the foundation for a unified security effort that embodies the professionalism and dedication of all agencies involved.

"Coordination is much more complex than people think,” said Cathy Lanier, a 27-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department. “Collaboration is all about respecting each other's mission, making sure that you have good communications and then every decision that's made, making sure that decision is communicated up and over to your partners.”

The 60th Presidential Inauguration is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of attendees, with millions more watching worldwide. Department of Defense and interagency cooperation are paramount to the success of the ceremonial event.
